What is Whipple's Surgery?
Whipple’s surgery is a complex operation used to treat cancers in the head of the pancreas, as well as the bile duct, duodenum, and nearby areas.
During the procedure, we remove:
- The head of the pancreas
- Part of the small intestine (duodenum)
- Gallbladder and part of the bile duct
- Sometimes part of the stomach
The digestive tract is then reconnected so your body can function normally.
Why Is It Done?
This surgery is most often used for:
- Pancreatic cancer
- Bile duct or ampullary cancer
- Benign pancreatic tumors
